Sprucing up an outfit with a tie, whether it be a skinny neck tie, a bow tie, or the less popular ascot tie, is one sure way to go to make a statement. There was a time when the skinny neck tie was everywhere - thanks to the English lads who made it really popular. I wouldn't go into it for it is already given - same with the bow tie.

The less common ascot tie (well, at least here in the Philippines) is actually another option to accent an outfit. I haven't actually seen anybody sporting it here in Manila. For definition purposes, an ascot tie according to Wikipedia is as follows:
"An ascot tie, or ascot, is a narrow neckband with wide pointed wings, traditionally made of pale grey patterned silk. This wide, formal tie is usually patterned, folded over, and fastened with a stickpin or tie tack."
For those who love wearing vests over dress shirts (like me), an ascot tie would really look nice instead of the usual skinny tie or bow tie - with the ascot outside the shirt. For those who do not like sporting vests, the ascot tie could be worn the traditional way inside the shirt.

This is how you tie an Ascot:
Pretty neat, don't you think? Next time you decide to wear a tie, opt for the Ascot instead for a change.
