I had a blast in Seoul.
I just got back from a week's stay in Seoul, South Korea and I had an amazing time there. Every now and then, I would travel alone (Yes, alone!) and go wherever my heart chooses to go. I have no problems with it. I didn't actually have a real plan at hand on what I will do in Seoul but I knew that I will have a blast. I booked in a dormitory (a first for me) because lately, I've been having "issues" sleeping. I've been having nightmares the past couple of months and staying alone in a hotel room in a foreign country is prolly not a good idea. Good thing I did because the fun really started at the dormitory (Hi Guesthouse).
Seoul is really a beautiful city. There's so much to see. Besides the places, the people were wonderful too. Getting lost in Seoul is not a problem. Although language could be a barrier sometimes, you'll get by. Travelling in Seoul requires a lot of walking, like seriously, A LOT! I have a couple of blisters on my feet to prove it. Lol.
Like I said earlier, the fun started at the dormitory. The dormitory is a hot pot of like minded people - people travelling solo to have one hell of an adventure. I stayed in a 6-bed room with 3 Japanese guys, a Danish guy, and a guy from Busan, South Korea. It's chaos everyday at our room. Hahaha. The thing is, at the dormitory we stayed in, Tae Hwan (the owner) would usually hold get-together parties for the guests and man I am telling you, it's a blast each time. Drinking is apparently mandatory and my drinking skills were tested big time in Seoul. I met a lot of new friends in Hi Guesthouse - like A LOT. I actually had a hard time remembering all of their names since I am not used to remembering foreign names. There are still a few names I could not remember actually. Hahaha. Since all of us came to Seoul with no plans, we just hooked up and went out to see the beautiful city all together! I remember a statement a new friend from Singapore (Melissa) told me when we were out in Nandaemun when we got lost. I was asking her where we should go and all she said was, "We are lost anyway so might as well just keep on going!". I was like, yeah, f*ck it. We're lost anyway and there's no point worrying. This trip has been the most I've been carefree and I loved it.
When It was time to say goodbye to each other, it was not the usual see you soon of course. It was more like hope to see you again in a different country sometime. It was really sad saying goodbye to all the wonderful people I have met and of course, it was sad having to leave Seoul and come back to my boring working life in Manila. This is something that I could make into something positive though. At least I could feel the thirst to go travelling some more and look forward to that next big adventure!
